Ubisoft Charts Ambitious Future for Assassin's Creed Shadows with Extensive Content Roadmap
Fresh parkour mechanics, complimentary quests, a major expansion, and customizable visual options are on the horizon
Ubisoft has unveiled an extensive post-launch strategy for Assassin's Creed Shadows, detailing several months of planned updates in a roadmap released April 30th. This follows the game's triumphant debut last month, where it earned widespread acclaim and quickly secured its position as the year's second best-selling title.
The feudal Japan-set adventure, which has been praised for its exceptional visuals and engaging gameplay, will soon evolve with numerous free additions alongside premium content. According to Ubisoft's Wednesday announcement video, players can expect regular "Story Drops" beginning in early May that will introduce new missions, capabilities, and activities while expanding the backgrounds of popular supporting characters.
Parkour enthusiasts have reason to celebrate with a significant movement system enhancement coming later in May. The update will introduce height-gaining back-ejects, completely reworked height-gaining side-ejects, and an innovative Vertical Ledge Jump mechanic allowing characters to leap directly upward to grasp low overhangs without wall assistance. Ubisoft promises additional parkour refinements throughout 2025.
The roadmap also highlights community-driven updates incorporating player feedback, such as toggleable in-game filters, visual effects options, and the ability to hide character headgear during cinematics.
Beyond these announced features, Ubisoft teases "more surprises" yet to be revealed, suggesting the current roadmap represents just the standout elements they wanted to share with fans.
For those willing to invest beyond the base game, Shadows will receive its first paid expansion—Claws Of Awaji—sometime after June. This DLC will introduce players to a new region and equip Naoi with a bow staff weapon.
With such comprehensive support planned, Assassin's Creed Shadows looks positioned to substantially grow and improve over the coming year, building upon what was already considered an exceptional experience at launch.
